Cleansing Ritual For Your Home

Today, I’ll share with you an energy cleansing ritual for your home. I perform this ritual whenever I move into a new house or apartment, as well as in my current place of living when I feel so.

Why home cleansing matters

Before I begin, I should say that I understand that spiritual or esoteric practices are not for everyone. If you don’t feel like they make sense, it’s totally fine. But as for me, I strongly believe that just like our homes can accumulate physical clutter, they can accumulate spiritual clutter (or energy), too. And even if we tidy up often, we may not feel good at our own homes anyway.

Since my home is a reflection of my inner environment (no matter if I rent it or own it), when it’s cluttered energetically, I feel those low vibes inside. That’s where the house cleansing ritual comes in hand. This practice helps to not only uplift the energy of the place I live in, but it also helps me uplift my own energy, as well.

Now, let me walk you through each step of my house cleansing ritual. What you'll need:

  • Water
  • Lemon juice
  • Mixing bowl
  • Washcloth
  • Sage smudge stick
  • Palo santo incense stick
  • Your favorite mantra or sound audio

Step 1. Clean your home

To start with, tidy up your space. Pay special attention to the entrance of your home, your bedroom and the stove.

The entrance of our home accumulates all the energy that comes in, so it’s important to keep this space clean. Our bedroom is the place where we spend ⅓ or our time, where we relax and gain strength, so it’s not less important to keep it clean, too. And finally, our stoves (and so the burners) represent our wealth and resources, so make sure they are also clean (not only during the practice).

Ok, once you’re done with cleaning, prepare lemon water (just mix water and lemon juice into a bowl). Take your washcloth, and clean each door handle in your home with lemon water. Don’t forget to clean window handles as well as furniture handles.

Lemon juice not only eliminates unwanted energy, but also acts as a sanitizer, which is especially important nowadays.

Step 2. Eliminate unwanted energy

Once you’re done with cleaning, open all the windows and the doors in your home. Now, it’s time to concentrate. Start with a simple intention of focusing on clearing the negative energy out of your space and mind. Once you have your intention in mind, light your sage.

Starting at the front door, walk around your home clockwise with your sage, keeping your intention in mind. Moving clockwise is moving in harmony with the natural world, so you’ll always want to move in that direction.

I recommend carrying a bowl or shell with you to catch anything that falls away from your sage. As you burn the sage in each room, give a little extra attention to the corners, as this is where unwanted energy often builds up.

Leave your doors and windows open until the sage smoke fades away.

Step 3. Let the positive energy in

Now it’s time to fill your home with positive energy. Close your doors and windows. Light your palo santo stick. Turn on your favorite mantra or sound (it can be a sound of birds singing or waterfall or anything you like and anything that inspires you). Just like you did with sage, walk around your home clockwise. This time, concentrate on letting the positive energy in.

Once you finish, put out your palo santo stick and you can leave your mantra on, if you feel like it.

I also recommend you take a warm bath or shower after the ritual is over, to wash away any residue of the cleansing.

It may sound like a lot, but this 3-step house cleansing ritual can really make a big impact on how you feel at home. Enjoy your newly cleansed home and all the clean energy!
